Cape Sanctuary offers guests of Rosewood Cape Kidnappers exclusive tour opportunities. Cape Sanctuary has a proud, and long-lasting tourism partnership with Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, designed to showcase the highlights of conservation efforts on the peninsula. Guests may book either, or both the Cape Sanctuary Experience and Night tour.
The Cape Sanctuary Experience
This three hour experience is a true journey for nature lovers! Here exists the only opportunity to explore the Ocean Beach Wilderness Area on the southern side of the peninsula. Our expert guides will showcase our unique history of conservation starting with a blank hillside in 2005 to today's luscious coastal forest. Experience native New Zealand Wildlife, including Kakariki, Tuatara, Kaka, Giant Weta and the critically endangered takahe. Watch the light dance across sand dunes as you're met with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and enjoy the serenity of our private slice of paradise. What to Know
Guests of the Cape Sanctuary experience will be transported to Ocean Beach in a Can-Am, which is our specific off-road vehicle. If guests prefer travelling in an enclosed 4WD, please let us know and we can arrange a Prado. The Cape Sanctuary experience is a largely driving tour, yet three are opportunities to extend walking travel. Guests must be able to walk ~100m on unpaved terrain.

Night Tour
A journey like no other, Cape Sanctuary's night tour presents a rare opportunity to sight the internationally famous, enigmatic kiwi. Marval at the beauty and wonder of our secret chasm of glowworms as you experience the nocturnal wonders of New Zealand. The Night Tour starts with a visit to our aviary grounds, where our diurnal parrots, kaka are catching the last glimpses of dusk before heading into the forest to sleep. Then, ventures down into the depths of our glow-worm creek bed- Cape Sanctuary's best kept secret! Equipped with flashlights, sweep the surroundings for a glimpse of kiwi, while you listen out for our native owl the ruru. The night tour commences at 9pm and finishes at 11pm.
What to Know
The glowworm creek is accessed down a flight of steep stairs. The creek bed can contain water, and may be slippery. Caution, and a moderate level of fitness is required. The lodge offers rubber boots to guests to ensure feet are kept dry. A driving only tour option is available for parties unable to access the creek.

Forest Bird Feed Tour
For those travelling in a group looking for a fun afternoon activity, look no further than our Forest Bird Feed tour! Join our wildlife rangers as we feed our wild flock of endangered parrots, the kaka, their daily supplementary feed of nectar, fruit and vegetables. Here exists an opportunity for an up-close encounter with New Zealand's endangered wildlife. Kaka are naturally inquisitive and are certainly not shy with people, making for perfect photo opportunities. The forest bird feed is fun for the whole family.
What to Know
Enclosed shoes are recommended for this tour option. A short distance of off-road walking is required.
